Dr. Alan Ettinger
Hi everyone,
My name is Dr. Alan Ettinger and I am pleased to be the coordinator of our team at “Ask the Epilepsy Experts.” But first, I have a confession to make. Many people think of me as an epilepsy specialist but the truth is, I am first and foremost a dog nut; i.e., a guy who is absolutely nutty about his dog Sweetie.
Nine years ago, I met Sweetie at a shelter on Long Island NY.

It was love at first sight.

Here is Sweetie in one of her typical poses.
Sometimes, I am late for work because Sweetie insists on getting her ritual belly rub every morning.
Dogs are very smart. Here is a picture of my wife (Dr. Deborah Weisbrot) and me at an exhibition at the American Epilepsy Society. Here they showed off dogs that were able to detect the earliest signs of a seizure and lead their owners to safety. Please don’t reveal to Sweetie that I was hanging out with another dog.

When I am not at work, and not petting the dog, you can find me playing ping pong or tennis with our son Jonathan. Jonathan has some killer slam shots that simply can’t be returned. At other times, you can find me listening to our other son Josh’s rock band “MemoriesInPlay”. Their band has developed an amazing following and they just cut a CD. You can check them out at www.purevolume.com/memoriesinplay
I am really excited to coordinate this exciting new website, working with our group to answers questions and meeting everyone on-line who is interested to learn more about epilepsy.
Sincerely,
Alan B. Ettinger, M.D.
Epilepsy Director, Neurological Surgery P.C.
Professor of Clinical Neurology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
